I study the ecological processes that shape plant diversity and distributions across various scales of organization--from individual plants, to populations, to entire communities. My research questions often fall under the umbrella of disturbance ecology. For example, I have studied how biological invasions, grazing, drought, fire, and altered hydrology due to green stormwater infrastructure (GSI) affect plant biodiversity. At Denver Botanic Gardens, I combine complementary sampling approaches from different disciplines—including collections-based botanical floristics and quantitative plant ecology—to improve our understanding of what factors shape plant biodiversity.
